This week happens to be National Women’s Health Week, and the month of May is National Mental Health Month. So I thought– what a great time to write a blog post that speaks to both! One of my passions is helping women realize their full potential and find ways to truly honor themselves. This day and age is incredibly busy for everyone (men included), but women tend to be the ones silently suffering. More and more women are caring for their aging parents while still raising their o... Read More
Alabama born (but Brooklyn bred) anti-folk group Balthrop, Alabama (who give Broken Social Scene and Arcade Fire a run for their money in the "number of band members" department) have a new music video out for their single "Pretty Little Bird" which we have the pleasure of premiering. Set in a world that seems culled right out of a children's television program (think old school Nickelodeon programs) with brightly colored crayon. <object classid='clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-1 1cf-96B8-4445535... The story goes that a reporter conducting an interview with Thomas Edison asked him about the development process of inventing the light bulb and why it had taken Edison thousands of attempts before finally “getting it right.” Edison’s reply? “Those weren’t failures. I simply did not realize there were 10,000 steps to creating the light bulb.” So many of us tend to see our mistakes as tally marks in the “loser” column of our lives. “Oh, I should have known better!... Marianne Windham, Travel Agent-Windham Travel & Leisure-Huntsville, al You should book with a local travel agent because they are a small business owner in your community. Tuesday night is our first fundraiser to help us "fullfill the promise to never forget". Last week I visited with Sgt. Ian Hogg, a Marine/Iraq vet who is in the final stages of life. Sgt. Hogg recently turned 30 and suffers from advanced A.L.S.(Lou Gehrig's Disease) While it's debatable as to how he got this dreaded disease, the chemicals he was exposed to in Iraq most likely expedited how quickly it's ravaged his body. With a beautiful wife and two daughters, time is precious. One of the few... Read More
I'm on a mission to find the best wings in Huntsville. In the late 80's I was living in the Atlanta area and a friend told me I just HAD to try buffalo wings. I'm thinking, that makes absolutely noooooooooooooo sense, buffalos don't have wings. OK when I finally found out that Buffalo is where they were invented, it made a little more sense. I quickly became addicted. And I wasn't the only one. I remember, while working in Valdosta for a couple of months, I ha... Read More
Petra - The Kazneh I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday weekend. Today is Easter Sunday; and in addition to celebrating remembrance and gratitude with our loved ones, we also reminisce about special Easter Sundays from our childhood. My mom, Betty, was a Sunday school teacher for about 13 years. One of my favorite and vivid memories was when my mom took my entire Sunday school class to a special showing of Cecil B. DeMille’s The Te... Read More
How great would it be to have your own personal trainer? Except there’s the issue of not having the right kind of space in your home or for some reason you just don’t want someone coming there to work with you. Sure, you can go to the gym, but you’re probably not going to get the personal attention and there’s no real privacy, only an open space where it can feel like everyone is watching. Wouldn’t it be great if there were some alternative? Guess what, there is... Read More
