Back in 1992, I had the opportunity to dance as a guest artist with the Scottish-American Ballet during the Edinburgh Festival. We flew from New York to London, then on to Scotland, where we stayed for two weeks. Again, this was one of those past travel experiences which I am so grateful for, yet equally disappointed that I did not plan for the time to explore Ireland while I was close by. I love the music, the dance, the food, the landscapes, &n... Read More

Everyone had a wonderful cruise experience; however we were hearing reports of people getting sick on other cruise ships that we... Read More
Cabo San Lucas Are you a single traveler? You may travel single, but you certainly don’t have to travel alone. You can travel with a small group of like-minded people, and share the experiences of a destination; but then have free time to explore on your own. Yes, cruise Ships Are Safe! By Capt. John L. Beath Costa cruise Line’s recent disaster has many wondering if cruise ships are safe. Blame for the terrible, and avoidable accident has been squarely blamed on Captain Francesco Schettino– a captain with the cruise line since 2006. This tragedy could have and should have been avoided by simply following company protocols. Schettino’s decision, for whatever reason, to deviate from pre-programmed routing put the... Read More

You know the tag line I use for my business-Windham Travel & Leisure- is “What's on Your Bucket List?” I explained the importance of this in my very first blog post. Well I have a fairly definite plan for “bucket list” trips we're planning from now through 2016; based on our desire to visit all 7 continents by the time my husband and I are 55. We've separately traveled to several countries in Europe through the years; and we went toChinathis past March. And of... Read More
Ahoy, Mateys! I just returned on September 20 from Miami, where I attended “From Our Home to Yours”, a home-based travel agent conference with Carnival cruise Lines. My primary purpose was to complete two ship inspections of the Carnival Liberty (Ship Theme: Artisan Work) and the Carnival Valor (Ship Theme: Heroes and Heroics), before they embarked on their Eastern Exotic Caribbean and Western Caribbean itineraries, respectively. However, the BIG bonus was t... Read More
One small ship cruise line goes under. Most people would have seen their ships as fodder for the scrap yard. Dan Blanchard of American Safari Cruises saw them as the means to start a new company. With the complete overhaul of two ships formerly of Glacier Bay, InnerSea Discoverieswas born, a small-ship cruise line with a taste for adventure and exploration of wild places. The first time I saw the Wilderness Discoverer she sat high and dry in a shipyard in Seattle. Poin... Read More
Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, two names for one rather small island. This now peaceful Caribbean island has a long and bloody history. Violence began long before the day Columbus first sighted the island in 1493 on November 11, the holy day of Saint Martin of Tours. He claimed the island for Spain, naming it Isla de San Martin. Throughout history, the island changed hands many times between Spain, France, Holland, Britain and Denmark. Before the... Read More

Southeast Alaska's Iceberg Journey With Innersea Discoveries Cruises “Exploring & Touching Blue Ice” Cool blue rays radiated through odd shaped icebergs as they drifted aimlessly throughout LeConte Bay in Southeast Alaska. As our outboard powered inflatable boat approached the massive iceberg flotilla, each iceberg or “Bergy Bit” had their own unique, one-of-a-kind personality. Some chunks of blue ice looked like giant birds while others looked like sea monsters or ice ships pilo... Read More
