Google As A Source Of Business Leads

Think back to the last three times you used the Yellow Pages.  How many weeks or perhaps months do you have to go back in time in order to find those last three times you went to the Yellow Pages or Yellow Book for information?

Now think back to the last three times you used Google.  If you are like most, you used Google three times in just the last 24 hours.

Google gets about 1.5 Billion searches per day. And according to Google, about half of those searches are people searching for a local supplier.  Studies have shown that as consumers,  80% of our purchases are made within 15 miles of where we live and work.

Think about that for a moment.  750 million searches each day from local consumers trying to find a place to spend their money.

Local merchants who aren't positioned well in Google miss all of that business.  Google says that only about 3% of all searches ever go to the second page of search results.  So if a local merchant isn't on the first page, they may as well be on the last page.

Most local merchants lack the knowledge to create an effective web campaign.  Having a website somewhere among the 1 Trillion pages out there today isn't nearly enough.  You can have a beautiful, well designed, and highly functional site, but if no one finds your site, you haven't really accomplished very much.  You certainly can't expect a difficult to find website to produce significant revenue.

A STEADY SOURCE OF BUSINESS LEADS

Many people I meet express a number of mistaken beliefs about Google and the other major search engines and the important role they have assumed in today's economy.

Most small business owners are unfamiliar with the power of Google in terms of creating a steady source of business leads for their particular business.   Google's recent change which seamlessly incorporates Local search results into Google's normal search results pages underscores that fact.

And many of those business owners who happen to be aware of the power of Google are at a total loss when it comes to developing a strategy to tap into the tremendous power of Google as a continuing source of business leads.

In just the Huntsville area alone many small business owners have yet to understand the power of Google to provide a steady stream of business leads each and every month.   Depending upon your conversion rate when dealing with new leads, your business could be missing out on the opportunity to grow. 

With a special account, you can actually log into Google in order to determine how many people on average search for any particular term in a given month.  You can also determine the number of times consumers in a local market search for a particiular type of product or service.  For example, look at the following table depicting the number of times people in the Huntsville area search for real estate.

Keep in mind that these figures come directly from Google.  They represent the average number of times EACH MONTH that these phrases are searched.  You can easily see from the search phrases that most of those people are interested in some type of Huntsville real estate.  What real estate agent in the Huntsville area would not want to have a ready source of targeted, prequalified leads each month?

The problem is that most small businesses including local real estate companies have absolutely no idea how to take advantage of these leads.  They don't know how to connect with these leads in the first place.  As a result, only their competition is able to take advantage of this huge pool of leads each month.

It starts with Google and causing your website or web presence to move higher in the Google rankings.  It is not necessary to have a website in order to gain access to these lads.   But for those of you who already have a website you should know that just because you have a website you aren't necessarily able to tap into this source of leads.  You need to be listed on PAGE ONE!  

You see, its not enough to be listed on Google's second or third pages.   Extensive studies conducted by Google indicates that only about 3% of the time will a person venture from the 1st page to the second page.  And fewer still go from the second page to the third page.  As we like to say "If you aren't on page one, you make as well be on the last page".

The trouble is that many of those business owners who recognize the importance of being on page one for the highly relevant searches that are being conducted each month, are totally unaware of how to get positioned on page one.

A continuing fallacy I hear almost on a daily basis is that somehow being on page one is totally related to KEYWORDS.   Nothing could be farther from the truth.  While keywords indeed have some influence upon a site's position on Google, that influence is only about 1% of the total areas that influence a site's position.

That's one of the major reasons Grapevine was born.  More people do use search engines.  As we grow and people become more and more aware of the Grapevine and all it has to offer, since they're coming here for classifieds, to read blogs, etc. they will also search the business directory for the things they need.  The advantage we have over Google is that we also provide a free vehicle to brand your business, let clients get to know who you are, what you offer that's different from your competition and a built it FREE "Angie's List".  Clients can leave feedback about their experiences, allowing them 3rd party validation. 

 

Right now, since we have so much content on the Grapevine, and it continues to grow every day, we rank high in a lot of searches.  That translates to people who do currently search for services on google and others finding you because you're listed with us.
